18 Sanni Mask Set

In ancient Sri Lanka, it was believed that all sicknesses were caused by one of 18 demons or spirits that invaded the body. In order to be cured, an exorcism was performed by a shaman while dancers performed in these masks during the healing ritual. These 18 masks represent the ‘yakas’ or demons responsible for each sickness. This intricate piece was carved out of soft balsa wood by one of our brilliant creators; this talent was passed down through many generations in his family and now lies within him! 45″ x 25″
